Kitten vs Lilly Rematch Round 10

ROUND TEN

My attempt to slow the action down and box Lilly Sanchez had backfired.  She'd picked up her pace, bruised me under my right eye, and roughed me up with a big flurry at the end of the ninth!  So with three rounds still to go any points lead I'd built up was now too narrow to take to the bank.  Tiring or not, I'd done better by going right at her with everything I had, even though I wasn't sure I had enough left in my tank to last three full rounds!

The tenth round turned into a big test for both of us as we went back to slamming each other toe to toe.

Lilly was finally tiring too, so she was beginning to leave more openings for clean hard shots. That was the good news.  The bad news was that I was doing the same, throwing more looping arm punches and fewer crisp hard shots up the middle.  We were both sweaty and ragged, both leaving openings, both taking chances, both getting a little desperate and windmilling our punches more. 

We traded fairly evenly for most of the tenth round until Lilly caught me with my guard down and pounded a huge left hook into my nose, which began to leak more blood.  I threw a left and a right back at her, cuffing her ears hard, but she quickly popped another left into my bruised right eye.  We briefly stood still and glared at each other, me now guarding my bloody nose and my bruised eye with my right.  I tried to bob and weave ... but Lilly had learned to anticipate my moves and she threw a solid left that hammered my right glove back into my nose, making it bleed some more.  I winced and covered up, peeking through my gloves to see Lilly grinning at me.

I was furious!  I wasn't going to lose now, not to a girl I'd already KO'd once!  A rush of anger and adrenaline gave me a jolt of energy I didn't know I still had ... and I cracked Lilly with one of the sweetest uppercuts I'd thrown all fight.  The punch caught Lilly on the mouth, sending a spray of her spittle and sweat flying into the air.  I followed it with the most savage right hook to her body that I could manage, driving my red leather glove hard into her stomach muscles just inches above the white waistband of her black shorts.  Lilly gasped as the vicious punch compressed her tender flesh back against her spine.  It was a punch that should have sent her to the canvas ... but she lurched forward to grab me in a clinch, planting her sweaty face in my sport bra while she leaned her entire weight on me to force me back.  I tried to push her away but she trapped my left glove under her right arm while she pushed the the open palm of her own left glove up at my face.  Her left glove laces dragged painfully over my right cheek, tearing at the bruise that was growing there.

I grimaced as we wrestled and shoved each other into a sweaty standstill that the referee had to pry us out of.  We both stood flat-footed in the middle of the ring, panting and soaked in sweat, our hair disheveled, our gloves down by our trunks.  If either of us still had even half the quickness that we'd brought to the start of the fight, the more alert one could have clobbered the other and ended it right there ... but the round bell went again! 

We both returned to our corners exhausted and frustrated ... with two more rounds to go!  We'd given each other everything we had for ten rounds, and the fight had become a war of attrition!   It was still up for grabs!
